Many times a person is struggling with a mental disorder such as anxiety, post-traumatic stress syndrome, depression, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. In lieu of getting proper treatment for these disorders, people may self-medicate, using drugs and alcohol to relieve the symptoms temporarily.
